CPASS Foundation’s Chicago Area Health and Medical Careers Program™ (CAHMCP), has been in place since 1979 and has primarily focused on increasing the number of qualified underrepresented minority applicants and matriculants from the city of Chicago to medical and other health professional schools. We offer today’s Illinois underrepresented in medicine (URiM) students holistic support on their path to medical and health careers.
The CAHMCP Program consists of the following components to provide our Illinois URiM students the support they need to pursue
and persist in a medical or health profession.

2024-25 CAHMCP Part 1 RIR

The Creating Pathways and Access for Student Success™ (CPASS) Foundation was created to attract, encourage, educate, guide, and increase the number of promising, yet underrepresented Illinois students in science, technology, engineering, math, and medicine (STEMM) related professions. We are committed to providing a holistic educational foundation and exclusive access to career development resources for students to persist in STEMM careers.

Chicago Area Health and Medical Careers Program™ (CAHMCP), has been in place since 1979 and has primarily focused on increasing the number of qualified underrepresented minority applicants and matriculants from the city of Chicago to medical and other health professional schools.

We are excited to announce the launch of 2024-25 application for the CAHMCP Residency Interviewing Resources!

Requirements

APPLICATION PART 1.

  • Senior medical students in good standing who attend any accredited Illinois medical school are eligible to apply for reimbursement of Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS®) fees and residency interviewing expenses if they meet the following eligibility criteria:
    • Must be an Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM) student as defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) that attends an accredited Illinois medical school.
      Currently attending an accredited Illinois medical school.
    • Applicant must have completed minimally but not limited to 8 hours of volunteer service between July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025.
    • Service must be with an organization that provides STEMM pathway programs, health, or medical organizations. Please note priority will be given to those who have volunteered with any recognized CPASS Mini-Medical School (MMS) or other CPASS-funded programs (STEMM Scholars Academy, Parent Academy, Rosalind Franklin University INSPIRE Program, etc) for volunteer opportunities with CPASS contact info@cpassfoundation.org.
    • The organization you volunteer with will be required to complete a short online recommendation survey on the applicant’s work ethic and commitment during the volunteer service period and confirm the total number of completed volunteer hours.
      Residency interview (if requesting travel funds) is minimally 75 miles away from the place where the URiM student resides during the academic year. This address must be verified by the Illinois medical school in writing.
      The Illinois medical school where the URiM attends, must provide a minimum 10% match of the total approved reimbursement. This must be in writing and will be submitted with
  • Part 2 of the application.
    • The letter must be on official medical school letterhead. The letter must be addressed to the URiM student and include the residential address where the student resides during the academic year.
    • It must be signed by the Dean of the Medical School or their official designee.
    • Matching funds must be remitted to the URiM student within 30 business days of CPASS approving the funds.
    • These matching funds for the URiM student must have no conditions of repayment.
    • The letter must confirm that the URiM student is in good standing with the medical school.
    • Applicant must be a US citizen and/or have a US driver’s license.

Please note this is a two-part application process, if invited to continue you will receive another application link to collect additional information and to submit a recommender’s name.

Applications are reviewed quarterly and could take up to 6 months from the date of submission to be awarded.

2024-25 CAHMCP Test Prep Access + Professional Development

The Creating Pathways and Access for Student Success™ (CPASS) Foundation was created to attract, encourage, educate, guide, and increase the number of promising, yet underrepresented Illinois students in science, technology, engineering, math, and medicine (STEMM) related professions.  We are committed to providing a holistic educational foundation and exclusive access to career development resources for students to persist in STEMM careers.

Chicago Area Health and Medical Careers Program™ (CAHMCP), has been in place since 1979 and has primarily focused on increasing the number of qualified underrepresented minority applicants and matriculants from the city of Chicago to medical and other health professional schools.

We are excited to announce the application launch of CAHMCP Test Prep Access + Professional Development Initiative!

  • This initiative includes access to FREE standardized test prep courses for health professional schools and professional development seminars.
  • Accepted students will have access to free online Kaplan® test prep courses for health and medical professions (e.g. MCAT, GRE, DAT, PANCE, NCLEX, & others).
  • Applicants may also be eligible for test registration fee reimbursement, more information will be provided if your application is accepted.

Deadline to apply – September 30, 2025

Requirements

Undergraduate students in good standing who graduated from an Illinois high school are invited to apply for access to online Kaplan® test prep courses and CAHMCP professional development seminars if they meet the following eligibility criteria*:

  • Applicant must be an Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM) student as defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)
  • Must be able to demonstrate they graduated from an Illinois high school.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.20
  • Completed at least 75 hours of volunteer service during their undergraduate studies.
  • Applicant must be a US citizen.
  • Applications are reviewed quarterly and could take up to 6 months from the date of submission to be awarded.

*Eligibility criteria and terms & conditions are subject to change at any time. Seats are limited and are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Submission of an application does not guarantee admission into the program.

Undergraduate students in good standing who graduated from Illinois high school are invited to apply for access to CAHMCP MCAT Resource Access Program which includes Free Kaplan®  2022-23 MCAT Complete 7-Book Test Prep, if they meet the following eligibility criteria*:

  • Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM) student as defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)
  • Must be able to demonstrate they graduated from an Illinois high school.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.20
  • Completed at least 75 hours of volunteer service during their undergraduate studies.
  • Applicant must be a US citizen and/or have a US driver’s license.
  • Applications are reviewed quarterly and could take up to 6 months from the date of submission to be awarded.

    This initiative includes access to FREE USMLE® Kaplan® Step test prep courses.

    Requirements

    • Applicant must be an Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM) student as defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)
    • Currently attending an accredited Illinois medical school
    • Applicant must have completed minimally but not limited to 8 hours of volunteer service between July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025.
    • Service must be with an organization that provides STEMM pathway programs, health, or medical organizations.  Please note priority will be given to those who have volunteered with any recognized CPASS Mini-Medical School (MMS) or other CPASS-funded programs (STEMM Scholars Academy, Parent Academy, Rosalind Franklin University INSPIRE Program, etc) for volunteer opportunities with CPASS contact info@cpassfoundation.org.
    • The organization you volunteer with will be required to complete a short online recommendation survey on the applicant’s work ethic and commitment during the volunteer service period and confirm the total number of completed volunteer hours.
    • Applicant must be a US citizen and/or have a US driver’s license.
    • Applicants must be enrolled in a Kaplan course no less than 90 days prior to their scheduled exam date to receive test prep.  View schedule here

    Requirements

    URiM medical students in good standing who attend any accredited Illinois medical school are invited to apply for reimbursement of their USMLE® Step test registration fees if they meet the following eligibility criteria (see application for detailed requirements):

    • Applicant must be an Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM) student as defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)
    • Currently attending an accredited Illinois medical school
    • Applicant must have completed minimally but not limited to 8 hours of volunteer service between July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025.
    • Service must be with an organization that provides STEMM pathway programs, health, or medical organizations.  Please note priority will be given to those who have volunteered with any recognized CPASS Mini-Medical School (MMS) or other CPASS-funded programs (STEMM Scholars Academy, Parent Academy, Rosalind Franklin University INSPIRE Program, etc) for volunteer opportunities with CPASS contact info@cpassfoundation.org.

    Students who are awarded & submit a passing final score by June 15, 2025, will be eligible (not guaranteed) for full registration fee reimbursement. All others who are awarded will receive partial reimbursements.
